Task 5: Tar Heel Reader

The following activity is aimed for A2/B1 students.
Through out this task, students have to rewrite a fairytale by using tar heel reader. They should change whatevery they want (the ending, the setting, the place etc.) They do not need to use complex sentences and it will serve as a review of past tenses.

Here there is an example of what they should do.

As a post activity, students may read their stories so that the rest of the class think about the differences and similarities between both stories (the traditional and the rewritten version).

The presentation must include some specific information (their likes and dislikes, their favourite food, their habits, some personal data etc). Thus, the teacher will provide a guide with some points to be covered. Then, the rest of the class will listen to the presentation and they will have to answer some questions related to their peers´presentations. .

  • When was your partner born?
  • How was his/her personality?
  • What did your partner like to do when he/she was a child?

  • Was your partner a good student?
  • Which was his/her favourite subject?
  • What did he/she want to be when he/she grew up?
  • What was he/she scared of as a child?

The following presentation may be taken as an example. The images may be real or not since the point here is to make our students to speak in English! This acitivy will be surely an engaging one for them because it has a meaningful context and is related to their real life. This is always attracting for them!
